About

I really wanted to write some witty story about how I first came to love writing and what inspired me to ‘live the dream’ but to be honest, I don’t remember when I fell in love with words. It’s been so much a part of who I am and what I am for the entirety of my life, that I would be remiss to try to pinpoint one particular book or moment in my childhood that made me say this is it.

What I do know is this: after high school I enrolled in a rather prestigious New England private college.  I intended to major in English, write for the newspaper and become an award winning journalist before 30. Somewhere along the way, however, I got jaded. My spirit was crushed, to put it bluntly, and I forgot what it was that I loved and more importantly, I forgot who I was.

I ultimately graduated with a degree in History and Education.  I spent the last year in the heart of Texas working in education and coming to terms with the extent of my unrest before moving back in with my parents in a small town nestled somewhere in the Northwest hills of Connecticut. While I’m on this short hiatus from life, I’ve decided to get back in touch with the person I once was and the dreams I once harbored…

I’m writing a book.

This isn’t going to be pretty. It probably won’t be all that eloquent or gramatically correct, but it will be something. It will be the something I’ve always dreamed about, and shouldn’t that be enough?

So I hope you join me on my journey. Please contact me via email (ashleymcartagena@gmail.com) or on twitter (@moorenotless) if you’re a writer in the making or just want to talk!
